Aftercare

Saniderm aftercare:

✧Leave your saniderm bandage on for 3 days if possible.

✧It’s normal to see blood, plasma, or extra ink pool underneath your bandage, don’t worry!

✧If you notice any reaction to the adhesive (such as a rash, redness, itchiness), take the bandage off immediately.

✧If you notice an opening in the bandage that has allowed shower-water or any debris into the bandage, take it off immediately. If a significant portion of the bandage has started to lift and exposed your tattoo, take it off.

✧ When you do remove your saniderm bandage, I recommend doing it in the shower with warm water. Stretch the bandage away from the skin.

✧ Do not rebandage

After removing your bandage:

TLDR: Only touch with clean hands. For the first 5 days after removing bandage, wash at least twice a day with non-scented anti-bacterial soap, followed by applying a thin layer of ointment or non-scented lotion. No scrubbing or itching. No swimming, soaking, or direct sun for 2 weeks.

✧ Only touch the area with clean hands.

✧ Gently wash with a non-scented anti-bacterial liquid soap, using only your hands (I recommend Dr. Bronner’s unscented soap or Dial Gold) Avoid any scrubbing.

✧ Pat dry with a clean paper towel. Do not use a bath towel directly on your fresh tattoo, as towels can carry bacteria and lead to infection. Again, avoid scrubbing your fresh tattoo, as this can cause you to lose ink.

✧ After it’s dry, apply a thin layer of ointment (I recommend aquaphor or A&D) or a non-scented lotion.

✧Repeat these steps of washing and moisturizing the area at least twice a day for the first 5 days after removing the bandage. Repeat if the area is visibly dirty, or if the area is especially sweaty.

✧ It will take about 2 weeks for your tattoo to heal (tattoos with heavy shading or color may take longer). You may notice slight scabbing or peeling of the skin - this is normal. Do not scratch or pick at the area, and try to keep it lightly moisturized.

✧ If the area feels tight or itchy throughout the day, you can apply more non-scented lotion.

Other

✧ Wear loose-fitting nonabrasive clothing in that area if possible and allow your tattoo to breathe while it heals.

✧ For the first 2 weeks after getting tattooed, do not soak your tattoo. That means no pools, hot tubs, rivers, lakes, baths, etc. Not only can this cause your tattoo to lose ink, but can also lead to infection.

✧ Try to keep your tattoo out of direct sun for the first 2 weeks. Keeping it covered with clothing is fine. Do not apply sunscreen to your tattoo until it is healed. After it’s healed, use sunscreen to help your lines stay crisp and keep your color from fading.
